Job Description

A Principal at Holy Cross Academy must be a practicing Catholic who is passionate about fostering, developing, and evaluating a high-spirited, progressive learning environment that supports the health, welfare, safety, and spirit of our students, faculty, and parents. 

Duties & Responsibilities

As a Faith leader:

  • Leads, fosters, and involves the community in prayer and liturgy.
  • Emphasizes school community-wide service opportunities which promote empathy and preferential treatment for the poor.
  • Fosters relationships between students, faculty, and parents in an atmosphere of Christian, Catholic love.

As an Educational Leader:

  • Cultivates developmentally appropriate school philosophy, goals, and curriculum.
  • Directs and provides opportunities for professional growth/evaluation of faculty and staff.
  • Fosters a connection between school and home, and encourages healthy, supportive parent-teacher-student interactions.
  • Demonstrates one’s experience, enthusiasm, and thorough understanding of current best practices for instructional methodology, pedagogy of children, classroom management and multi-learning styles for children, and knowledge of best practices in educational administration.
  • Encourages a collaborative learning environment.
  • It is student-focused and nurtures a caring and inclusive school environment.
  • Communicates with faculty, staff, and parents regularly and in a joyful, supportive manner.
  • Collaborates with all HCA principals, educators, staff and principals and educators throughout the region and within the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
  • Ensures that the Archdiocesan Unified Standards are followed.
  • Coordinates a vibrant after-school program.

As an Administrator:

  • Supervises the daily operation of the school and facilitates school organizations.
  • Displays excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with educators, families, and community leaders effectively.
  • Recruits, interviews, and offers contracts to staff persons—teaching and non-teaching personnel.
  • Participates in parent meetings and conferences and acts as an intermediary between parents, teachers, and students when the need arises.
  • Maintains and safeguards financial, personnel, and student records.
  • Ensures compliance with state and Archdiocesan guidelines.
  • Safeguards all students' health, safety, and spirit by providing a safe learning environment.
  • Maintains open, positive, constructive communication with faculty, students, parents, pastor, president, school/parish organizations, and the community.
  • Communicates the school’s values, needs, efforts, and accomplishments to the community at large. 
  • Have a knowledge of the Sacraments for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree or its equivalent in Educational Leadership/Administration or someone in the progress of a Leadership Certification.
  • Five years of demonstrated success in teaching.
  • Commitment to a Catholic philosophy of education.

Holy Cross Academy has an opening for a school nurse. HCA is seeking a professional to assure that every student has access to mental and physical health services throughout the day. You will work with teachers and parents or guardians on behalf of their students to create care plans when needed, including medication management if necessary. Apart from injuries and sudden ailments, our school nurses may also support students with chronic illnesses and disabilities. This person will also help promote health-related habits and ensure compliance with national and local health policies for schools. The ideal school nurse is not only helping in many areas of health but also knows how to work independently or with others. You must be able to communicate effectively and assess situations quickly to serve our students' needs.

School Nurse duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing healthcare to students with acute or chronic health problems
  • Conducting screenings and writing referrals for health services
  • Developing and monitoring health plans for students
  • Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
  • Detect health problems in the early stages through regular screening
  • Keep track of students' vaccination records
  • Update students' medical history
  • Ensure the school environment is safe for children and school staff
  • Prevention of infectious diseases
  • Ensure compliance with national and local health laws

Other Information:

  • Ability to move from campus to campus
  • Hourly position, 3 days a week
  • Work days/hours are from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from August to May when school is in session
